Press Release from Palm Coast Lions Club July 8, 2025
(Palm Coast, Florida) We’re proud to celebrate Emily Effort, an outstanding student and past president of the Flagler Palm Coast High School Leo Club, who has been awarded two scholarships—one from the Palm Coast Lions Club and another from our district, $2,000 total.
When asked what advice she’d give her peers, Emily didn’t hesitate:
“Join the Leos!”
One of her favorite service events was the school’s Halloween tradition, “Walk the Halls,” where students dressed up and handed out candy. Emily has been a Leo since her sophomore year and even helped lead marketing efforts for her club’s events throughout the school year.
She shared that her Leo Club feels like a tight-knit community where everyone helps one another. That sense of support and teamwork clearly made an impact.
During the interview, Zone Chair and Past President Nina Guiglotto shared,
“I really enjoyed your essay. I appreciated the part where you spoke about helping your parents—it was so heartfelt.”
Emily plans to attend UCF, majoring in Pre-Marketing, and is excited to continue developing her leadership and service skills.
Incoming Club President Shara Brodsky added,
“I love that the camaraderie begins at such a young age through the Leos. Our Lions still live by the ‘We Serve’ motto. It’s more than a phrase—it’s a way of life centered around love, support, and community.”
Looking ahead, the Palm Coast Lions Club is excited to launch a new community-based Leo Club, creating more opportunities for youth to discover the value of service and leadership.
Congratulations, Emily—you’re a shining example of what it means to serve with heart.

From Foster Care to Finding His Way: A Story of Wildlife, Redemption, and finding his way to Palm Coast.
Some stories don’t begin with a plan or an idea, they begin by living in the moment.
Shawn Griffith grew up in the shadows, navigating the chaos of foster care with no roadmap and few constants. But even in those early years, moments of quiet connection with stray animals and the rhythms of nature gave him a sense of calm in a world that often felt anything but.
