Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is one of Flagler County’s most treasured places. Nestled between Marineland and Flagler Beach — just blocks from the Atlantic Ocean and bordering the scenic Intracoastal Waterway — the park is known for its majestic oaks, formal gardens, native habitats, and its famous coquina rock shoreline. It was the perfect setting for a celebration of Earth Day.
The event was thoughtfully organized and warmly attended by visitors of all ages — from infants in strollers to seniors enjoying a stroll under the mossy oaks. Families, couples, and individuals traveled from Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Port Orange, The Hammock, Flagler Beach, and, of course, Palm Coast to join in the festivities.
Palm Coast Local was honored to be invited and had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people throughout the day. The atmosphere was more than just festive — it was genuinely joyful and welcoming. Music filled the air as classic oldies played in the background, setting a nostalgic and upbeat tone, while a live folk group later performed, adding even more heart and soul to the celebration.
We enjoyed wonderful conversations with many attendees, asking them where they came from and what brought them to this special part of Florida. Many shared that they had only recently moved to Palm Coast or Flagler Beach. Every person we spoke with called the area "Florida’s little secret." They praised the natural beauty, the friendly people, and the peaceful, slower pace of life that makes living here so unique.
We were especially thrilled to be positioned next to the incredible Sea Turtle Patrol team. Their dedication to protecting our coastal wildlife was inspiring to see firsthand. We’re excited to announce that Palm Coast Local will be partnering with the Sea Turtle Patrol — offering them a permanent spot on our platform to share their stories, updates, and upcoming events with the community.
Our beloved mascot, Sammy Sea Turtle, was a huge hit with the children! Little ones gathered around to hear stories about Sammy’s adventures and proudly walked away with Sammy Sea Turtle stickers, their smiles brightening the day even more.
The Earth Day Festival also featured a variety of vendors, food trucks, and educational booths — everything from beekeeping to conservation efforts. Organizations like the Sierra Club were present, offering resources and sparking thoughtful conversations about how we can all do our part to protect and preserve the natural beauty around us.
Throughout the day, what stood out most was the sense of community. Everyone was enthusiastic, but also incredibly congenial — laughing, learning, and celebrating together. There was an undeniable happiness in the air — a reflection of the deep appreciation people feel for this special corner of Florida.
We are grateful to the Friends of Washington Oaks for hosting such a meaningful event and for bringing together so many kind-hearted people. Palm Coast Local is honored to be part of this growing, supportive community — and we look forward to many more opportunities to connect, celebrate, and protect the beautiful place we call home.
